Overview
A great service doesn’t automatically translate into a great online reputation.
Our client, a local roofing company, had exactly this problem. Its customers were satisfied with the work, but its online presence told a different story.
With only a handful of reviews, an outdated rating and a website and social media profiles that failed to communicate a consistent brand identity, the company struggled to compete online.
Competitors with stronger review profiles and more established reputations were winning potential customers before the company even had a chance to demonstrate the quality of its work.
We decided to put customer reviews at the centre of a broader media presence strategy.
By connecting customer feedback with social media, website optimisation, third-party articles and content marketing, we built a system designed to turn existing customer satisfaction into visible proof of credibility.
This case study explores how that strategy transformed the company’s online reputation, improved its search visibility and helped turn more website visitors into potential customers.
The Problem
When we first audited the roofing company’s online presence, three major issues stood out.
Limited visibility in local search.
The company was appearing around the second page of Google for its most valuable local search terms.
This meant potential customers searching for roofing services in the area were more likely to encounter competitors first.
Reviews are an important component of local search visibility. Whitespark’s 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors study identifies review signals, including review quantity, recency and diversity, as relevant factors in local search performance.
With only 12 reviews, most of them old or lacking meaningful detail, the roofing company had very little recent customer feedback supporting its online reputation.
It wasn’t just competing against businesses with better websites. It was competing against businesses that looked considerably more established and trustworthy.
Website visitors weren’t converting.
Modern customers rarely choose a service provider without doing some research first.
Before hiring a roofing company, potential customers want reassurance that the business is reliable, experienced and capable of delivering quality work.
BrightLocal’s 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey found that 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses. Furthermore, 47% said they wouldn’t use a business with fewer than 20 reviews, while 74% only considered reviews written within the previous three months.
Research from Northwestern University’s Spiegel Research Center supports the importance of customer feedback. Its research found that products displaying five reviews had a 270% higher purchase likelihood than products with no reviews.
Although this research focused on online product purchasing, it illustrates how independent customer feedback can influence purchasing decisions.
Our client’s website was attracting visitors, but it wasn’t providing enough independent proof to reassure them.
An online reputation that didn’t reflect the actual service.
The company’s existing reviews weren’t being actively managed or incorporated into its wider marketing.
Customer feedback often went unanswered, the website lacked prominent testimonials, and social media rarely highlighted the positive experiences of existing customers.
The business had satisfied customers, but their experiences weren’t being used to strengthen its reputation.
As a result, its online image was considerably weaker than the quality of its actual work.
The Solution
We treated customer reviews not as an isolated marketing tactic, but as the foundation of a complete media presence strategy.
The objective was to turn genuine customer satisfaction into a consistent source of credibility, visibility and new business opportunities.
Step 1: Audit and establish a baseline.
We began by analysing the company’s existing online reputation and identifying the areas that needed improvement.
Our initial audit covered:
- Average customer rating.
- Total number of reviews.
- Review recency and frequency.
- Response rate to customer feedback.
- Google search positions for important local keywords.
- Website conversion rate.
- Monthly customer inquiries.
We also compared the company’s online presence with that of its leading local competitors to identify opportunities for improvement.
This established a measurable starting point against which we could evaluate the results of our work.
Step 2: Build a consistent flow of genuine reviews.
The company needed more than a one-time increase in review numbers. It needed a sustainable process for collecting customer feedback.
We introduced a straightforward review collection strategy that made it easier for satisfied customers to share their experiences.
Customers received review requests through email, SMS and QR codes, each directing them to the relevant review platform.
We focused on making the process simple and convenient, reducing the effort required to leave feedback.
We also expanded beyond Google by identifying relevant industry-specific review platforms where additional feedback could strengthen the company’s online presence.
Every review came from a genuine customer. We never purchased reviews, fabricated feedback or offered incentives in exchange for positive ratings.
The objective was to build a reputation that reflected actual customer experiences.
Step 3: Respond to every review.
Collecting reviews was only part of the process. We also introduced a consistent approach to responding to customer feedback.
Every review, whether positive or critical, received a thoughtful response within 24 hours.
This demonstrated that the company valued its customers and took their experiences seriously.
Responding to reviews also gave potential customers an opportunity to see how the business communicated, handled feedback and approached problems.
A professional response to criticism can sometimes be just as important as a positive review.
Step 4: Put customer reviews to work everywhere.
Instead of allowing positive reviews to remain hidden on third-party platforms, we incorporated them into the company’s wider marketing strategy.
We placed testimonials alongside important website calls to action and on relevant service pages, giving visitors access to customer feedback at the moments when they were considering contacting the business.
We also transformed selected customer comments into social media graphics and content highlighting real customer experiences.
Where appropriate, customer stories were incorporated into articles and other marketing materials.
This ensured that the company’s reputation was visible across multiple channels rather than confined to its Google Business Profile.
Step 5: Connect everything into one media presence.
We brought the different marketing activities together under one consistent brand identity.
Social media highlighted customer experiences and directed interested audiences towards the website.
The website showcased reviews, services and relevant content.
Articles strengthened the company’s credibility and provided additional opportunities for discovery through search engines.
Customer reviews continuously supplied fresh material that could be incorporated into future content.
The result was a connected marketing system in which every channel reinforced the company’s reputation.
One deliberate choice was to prioritise authenticity over chasing a perfect five-star rating.
Northwestern University’s Spiegel Research Center found that, in its product-purchasing research, purchase likelihood typically peaked between 4.0 and 4.7 stars before declining as ratings approached five stars.
Although this finding comes from e-commerce research, it reinforces the importance of presenting a believable reputation built on genuine customer experiences rather than pursuing a flawless-looking profile.
The Results
After three months of working together, the roofing company’s online reputation and marketing performance had improved considerably.
Reputation and Visibility
| Metric | Before | After | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average customer rating | 3.6 stars | 4.7 stars | +1.1 stars |
| Total customer reviews | 12 | 85 | +73 |
| Review response rate | 10% | 100% | +90 percentage points |
| Average Google position across target keywords | 14th | 2nd | +12 positions |
The company went from having just 12 reviews to 85, establishing a considerably stronger and more recent collection of customer feedback.
Its average rating also increased from 3.6 to 4.7 stars.
At the same time, its average position across multiple targeted local search terms improved from 14th to 2nd.
Business Performance
| Metric | Before | After | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website conversion rate | 1.8% | 3.4% | +89% |
| Monthly tracked inquiries | 20 | 80 | +300% |
The website conversion rate increased from 1.8% to 3.4%, meaning a substantially larger proportion of visitors were taking action.
Monthly tracked inquiries increased from approximately 20 to 80.
This represented a fourfold increase in incoming inquiries within the three-month engagement.
The growing collection of customer reviews, improved website presentation and stronger overall media presence gave potential customers more reasons to trust the business and get in touch.
A Different Business Position
Perhaps the most meaningful result wasn’t a number in a spreadsheet.
Before working together, the company was struggling to generate enough work and was considering hiring additional help to address its lack of incoming projects.
Following the improvements, the situation changed considerably. Instead of looking for ways to generate more work, the owner was considering expanding the team to handle increased demand.
Client testimonial
“I was initially sceptical because I had previously tried a similar service from someone else without seeing the results I expected. But when Klevtsov.Info worked on my business, I was genuinely shocked by the difference. Before, I was considering hiring someone to help because of the lack of work. Now, I’m actually looking to expand the team.”

Conclusion
The experience with this roofing company demonstrates that customer reviews are much more than a collection of star ratings.
They are an important part of a business’s marketing infrastructure, influencing three areas simultaneously.
Visibility: A consistent flow of genuine, recent reviews contributes to a stronger local online presence and provides additional signals that search engines can use when evaluating businesses.
Conversion: Customer feedback placed where purchasing decisions are made gives potential customers independent reassurance and can help turn hesitant visitors into inquiries.
Brand reputation: The way a business collects, responds to and showcases customer feedback communicates its professionalism and attitude towards customers before a potential client ever makes contact.
The biggest improvements came from connecting reviews with everything else: the website, social media, articles and broader marketing activities.
A review on its own is a piece of customer feedback.
A review integrated into a complete media presence becomes a reason for someone to choose your business over a competitor.
